Using a laser scanner instead of a touch probe based digitizer or touch probe scanning device mounted on a machining center or CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) for reverse engineering / inspection can help a mold builder attract new business and therefore increase the proportion of time that these machines can be utilized for their intended purpose.
Laser scanners also can dramatically reduce first article inspection costs for injection molded parts by graphically presenting on a screen exactly how the entire shape of the first article part compares to the design intent (CAD model).

7 AXIS CMM MEASURE MENT WITH LASER SCAN
- Portable and flexible CMM measurement. Accuracy of 0.05mm over 1800 mm.
- Wide operating temperature from 15 to 40 deg C.
- 7 axis measurement with max a of 1800 mm in one setting.
- Cantilever type of clamping different from conventional column type.
- This gives flexibility in accommodating the bigger length of parts. (Size is not a constraint.)
- On site measurement for fixtures core and cavities.
- Non contact type of measurement is an option with laser attachment.
- Comparison of Drawing to part produced (scanning in iges format).
